MIPCOM 2024: Fast TV – The Resurrection of Traditional TV!

CLIENT: MEDIT & MEDIAPOOL | EVENT: MIPCOM, Samsung TV Plus, Content & Cocktails | CANNES, 21.10.2024

MIPCOM 2024 FAST TV

Is FAST TV the saviour of traditional TV?

There’s no doubt that traditional TV has seen better days. Once the cash cow of the media industry, it’s now fading. But is it disappearing entirely? Not quite. As TV devices evolve into retransmission platforms for both linear and non-linear content, there’s more than just hope for the industry.

While major TV players remain hesitant to fully embrace Fast TV platforms, there’s tremendous potential for these platforms, especially when incorporating foreign TV channels. Why?

Let’s take a closer look at Germany:

  • 26% of Germany’s population has an immigration background.

  • That’s 21.2 million people—more than the population of many EU countries.

  • These individuals live in over 10 million households.

  • And they love watching TV channels from their home countries.

Given these figures, foreign TV channels are far from being a niche—they’re a core market.

Together with my partner, Ralf Heublein, we are at MIPCOM 2024 in Cannes, representing the largest foreign TV channel portfolio to drive growth in the Fast TV business.

In culturally diverse regions like the EU, foreign TV channels aren’t just an add-on—they’re a competitive advantage for any platform operator.
